The Provider Liaison functions as a support person in the coordination and organization of administrative processes for designated physicians. This role includes assisting with clerical documentation by acting as a medical scribe, accurately recording patient encounters at the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner (NPP). Demonstrates age specific and cultural sensitivity towards internal and external customers. This position is distinguished from other administrative support classes in that the position provides highly sensitive support to designated Providers. All duties are to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and PI Standards.

 

Essential Functions:

  1. Reviews schedule and identifies charts and other records needed to support designated providers when patient appointments or consults are conducted.
  2. Acts as a medical scribe by entering information into patient medical records at the direction of a physician or non-physician practitioner (NPP). This includes documenting patient encounters in real time during evaluations, procedures, and other services. The scribe’s role is limited to clerical documentation and does not involve interviewing, treating, or assessing patients or providing independent observations.
  3. Collects patient demographic information needed for charts and billing purposes.
  4. Assists patient therapy by contacting applicable pharmacies to have prescribed medications available for patient pickup.
  5. Using charts and other medical records, prepares billing for designated providers.
  6. May conduct research or other projects as assigned by designated physicians.
  7. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Educational / Experience Requirements:

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) in state of practice.
  • At least one year of experience in an acute medical surgical setting and/or an acute psychiatric setting.
  • In lieu of licensure, a minimum of six years’ experience in a similar role is required.

Qualifications / Skills:

  • Must be able to read and to write. Computer literacy, strong verbal, and written skills.
  • Must be well organized, flexible, and responsible.
  • Must be able to communicate knowledge in an educational arena.
  • Must possess excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must be able to work tactfully and cooperatively with a variety of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision, think globally, and simultaneously manage multiple details.

Work Environment:

Subject to many interruptions. Occasional pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. This position can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to the atmosphere. Work requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
