Health Information Management Director

At Oceans Behavioral Hospital Longview, healing is our focus. The Health Information Management Director (HIM Director) provides coordination of Health Information Process. Prepare and maintain accurate medical records information according to established procedures within a medical records unit.  Uses appropriate communication skills and knowledge of age/disability cultural diversity and provides emergency response, referred and assistive.  All duties to be done in accordance with Joint Commission, Federal and State regulations, Oceans' Mission, policies and procedures and Performance Improvement Standards.

 

Essential Functions:

 

  1. Navigates and runs reports in the electronic medical record.
  2. Actively participates in the facility based unbilled management process and resolution of issues contributing to unbilled accounts.
  3. Maintains the suspension process according to policy.
  4. Provides medical record viewing, training, and education to medical staff members.
  5. Oversees all the performance improvement activities for the HIM department and creates action plans related to measures that have fallen below compliance.
  6. Serves as an electronic medical record super user.
  7. Attends leadership meetings, Medical Executive Committee Meetings and Performance Improvement Meetings.
  8. Ensures regulatory compliance within the HIM Department.
  9. Works with the Corporate HIM Staff to maintain organizational standards.
  10. Performs other duties and projects as assigned
 
Skills/Abilities:
  1. Must be able to communicate effectively, be assertive in dealing with requests, and be highly
    organized.
  2. Demonstrates confidence and decision-making skills.
  3. Proficiency in using computers, software such as excel, and web-based applications.
  4. Must have strong verbal and written communication skills.
  5. Ability to work well with others and to communicate with other departments effectively.
  6. Ability to work under moderate supervision and follow written instructions to interpret policies and procedures.
  7. Must successfully complete Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.

Requirements

Education/Experience:
  • High school diploma. Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Three to five years’ experience in Health Information management department functions.
  • At least one (1) year supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA); or Accredited Record Technician (ART) preferred .
