What Our RN’s Do
As a Registered Nurse (RN), you will play a vital role in providing compassionate, patient-centered care in a behavioral health setting. You will assess patient needs, develop and implement individualized care plans, administer medications, monitor progress, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to support recovery and wellness. You'll also help maintain a safe, therapeutic environment while providing leadership and support to fellow nursing team members.
Registered Nurse (RN) Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate individualized patient care plans.
- Monitor patient conditions and respond appropriately to medical and behavioral health needs.
- Safely administer medications and provide patient education regarding treatment plans.
- Accurately document patient care, progress, and clinical observations.
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.
- Provide leadership, guidance, and support to nursing staff during assigned shifts.
- Respond to crisis situations and promote a safe therapeutic environment.
- Advocate for patient safety, dignity, and quality outcomes.
What You'll Bring
- Current, active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice or eligible Compact RN License.
- Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) required; BSN preferred.
- Previous inpatient hospital or behavioral health experience preferred.
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking abilities.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to remain calm and effective in a fast-paced behavioral health environment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills.
- Commitment to delivering compassionate, high-quality patient care.
Current CPR certification or ability to obtain upon hire
Requirements
Educational / Experience Requirements:
- Current, valid, and active license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of which you are employed
- Valid Compact licenses are also acceptable as they apply.
- Minimum of an Associated Degree in Nursing is required.
- One year of inpatient hospital experience strongly preferred.
Qualifications / Skills Requirements:
- Ability to adapt to a high stress environment and assess potential for patient escalation.
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to consistently achieve positive results with internal and external customers, be highly organized, have an understanding and sensitivity to serve culturally diverse and special needs population such as Chronically Mentally Ill, Geriatric, CD, be versed in basic knowledge of normal physical and emotional development.
- Exhibits critical thinking abilities and applies them for continuous improvement of patient care.
- Demonstrates self-confidence and ability to think conceptually in leading and directing others.
- Must successfully complete CPR certification and an Oceans approved behavioral health de-escalation program.
Work Environment:
Subject to many interruptions. Pressure due to multiple calls and inquiries. 12 hour rotating shifts. Can be high paced and stressful; must be able to cope mentally and physically to atmosphere. Might experience disagreeable odors, sights and/or unpredictable patient behavior. Requires spending approximately 90% or more of the time inside a building that offers protection from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes.
